Patient Stories
Our amazing patients share their stories of the wonderful care they received at a Northern Nevada Health System facility.
Linda Miller
Linda was feeling a little “off” while on vacation in Reno, so she visited the ER at Sierra Medical Center. Tests showed she had a heart condition, so she was admitted and had a heart catheterization the next day.
J-me LaQuet
J-me started experiencing stomach pain, so she visited the ER at Spanish Springs for help. Bloodwork indicated her appendix was the probable culprit and that she would need to have it removed. She was transferred to Northern Nevada Medical Center where she underwent successful surgery.
Louis Benton
Louis had pain in his chest that wasn’t going away. He went to ER at McCarran NW where he was diagnosed with acute chest pain and acute coronary syndrome. He was transferred to Sierra Medical Center where Interventional Cardiologist Devang Desai, MD, FACC, FSCAI, placed a stent in his heart.
Virginia Yagerhofer
Virginia has lived with a heart murmur for quite some time. She was referred to Dr. Devang Desai at Sierra Medical Center for a TAVR procedure. Dr. Desai assessed Virginia’s condition and confirmed that she was a candidate for the procedure. She became only the tenth person to receive this procedure at Sierra Medical Center.
Jennifer
Jennifer was having breathing issues, and blood tests showed that she needed an emergency CT scan because of elevated numbers. She went to the ER at Spanish Springs for a CT scan and the team found a large blood clot in her leg. She was then transported to Sierra Medical Center for emergency surgery.
Stephanie Kester
Stephanie already had one child, but she went into delivery of her second unsure what to expect since it was her first time delivering at Sierra Medical Center. She and her partner genuinely appreciated the education they received during their labor and delivery experience, as well as throughout their stay.
Taylor Johannesen
Taylor suffers from a chronic condition that requires specialized care. Because of her great patient experience at Sierra Medical Center, she feels comfortable knowing that she can get the care she needs, when she needs it.
Christy Orr
Christy Orr was experiencing extreme pain and was taken to the ER at Northern Nevada Medical Center where she underwent surgery to remove a blockage in her heart.
Elliott Josi
Elliott Josi’s Father’s Day in 2023 was made memorable by more than just the messages of love and gratitude from his kids. After experiencing bursting pain, he learned of a herniated disc in his spine.
Serenity Cortez
Being a first-time mom can mean you have a lot of questions about what to expect when you deliver. Luckily, Serenity Cortez was as prepared as she could be prior to delivering her first born at Sierra Medical Center (SMC).
Valerian D’Souza
On a Sunday in April, Valerian’s day took an unexpected, life-threatening turn. He was having stomach discomfort, but medication brought no relief. His son took him to a nearby freestanding emergency department, ER at Spanish Springs, an extension of Northern Nevada Medical Center — it saved his life.
Shannon
Shannon visited the ER at McCarran NW because she was experiencing an irregular heartbeat. She is grateful that she was able to receive immediate care at a facility equipped to treat someone with her condition.
Jeff Chapman
Jeff had surgery on his spinal cord, then spent 20 days in rehab at Northern Nevada Medical Center. He has come quite a long way and is now back to doing the things he loves.
Brett Kuhnsman
Brett visited the Sierra Medical Center emergency department for treatment of a blood clot. The care he received exceeded his expectations.
Sydney
Mom Sydney and baby Ellie were recent patients at Sierra Medical Center and only had great things to say about The Family Birth Center. “The nursing staff I had were very encouraging and helpful through the entire labor and delivery process,” said Sydney. “They listened and took into consideration my feelings and that’s something I will forever be grateful for. I have never met such kind and wonderful staff.”
Thank you to all who allow us to be part of their birthing journey!
