Northern Nevada Health System Recognized With Six American Heart Association and American Stroke Association Achievements

Northern Nevada Health System (NNHS) has received the American Heart Association’s® and American Stroke Association’s® highest national honors. The awards recognize our hospitals’ commitment to ensuring stroke, cardiac and diabetic patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines. NNHS earned the following awards.

Northern Nevada Medical Center

  • Northern Nevada Medical Center (NNMC), which recently celebrated its 40th year in operation, received the Get With The Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus – Target: Stroke Elite Plus Honor Roll and the Get With the Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus – Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll quality achievement awards. The Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus was achieved by meeting time-specific marks for 75% and 50% of applicable patients for 24 consecutive months. The Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll award was achieved by demonstration of high compliance for 24 consecutive months for required measures, including smoking cessation for patients with diabetes and statin prescription at discharge for patients with diabetes.
  • NNMC also earned the Get With The Guidelines Heart Failure Gold Plus – Target: Heart Failure Honor Roll and the Get With The Guidelines Heart Failure Gold Plus – Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll awards. The Target: Heart Failure Honor Roll was awarded by demonstrating 75% compliance for 24 consecutive months for required measures. The Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll was awarded for achieving 75% compliance for 24 consecutive months for measures including post-discharge appointment for heart failure patients with diabetes and smoking cessation for patients with diabetes.
  • Lastly, NNMC earned the Mission: Lifeline NSTEMI – Gold award by achieving a score of 85% or greater for two consecutive calendar years. Award requirements include providing a patient with cardiac rehab referral from an inpatient setting and smoking cessation counseling, and the evaluation of the left ventricular systolic functions.

Patients trust in our care and that we have in-depth knowledge to support cardiovascular health.”

Sierra Medical Center

The region’s newest hospital, Sierra Medical Center, qualified and earned the Get With The Guidelines Stroke Silver Plus – Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll by demonstration of compliance for 12 consecutive months for required measures, including smoking cessation for patients with diabetes and intensive statin prescription at discharge for patients with diabetes.

“To have received a collective six awards for both of our hospitals is a significant indicator of our clinical dedication to patient safety and care,” said Kaytlyn Korn, Stroke Coordinator at NNHS. “We value education and training our staff on the latest clinical recommendations and guidelines to match the delivery of care we provide to patients. When our staff are highly trained, it leads to better patient outcomes.”
