Rehab Therapies

Our Locations

Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services

Northern Nevada Health System offers comprehensive rehabilitation services, including physical, occupational and speech therapy. We are dedicated to helping patients reach their maximum potential after a serious illness, injury or surgery. Many types of treatment are offered, including inpatient, outpatient and acute rehabilitation treatment programs.

Inpatient Rehabilitation

Inpatient rehabilitation is performed at Northern Nevada Medical Center and Sierra Medical Center. It is designed for patients post-surgery or patients needing speech, occupational or physical therapy during a hospital stay.

Outpatient Rehabilitation

Outpatient rehabilitation is performed at our two freestanding clinics in the community. This is typically provided after a hospital stay to continue rehab, or for outpatients needing rehab care for injuries or to improve mobility or strength.

Acute Rehabilitation

Acute rehabilitation is performed at Northwest Specialty Hospital, which is expected to open in winter 2025. Patients will stay for several days or longer and are treated for debilitating conditions and injuries and similar. The sole purpose of a patient coming here is for rehabilitation, nothing else.

Physical Therapy

Our physical therapists are dedicated to improving patients’ quality of life by promoting optimal health and human function. Our staff provides comprehensive patient evaluation, treatment, and education in collaboration with other healthcare providers.

Occupational Therapy

Our therapists help patients achieve their highest level of function and independence. This enables them to return to their normal activities of daily living. Occupational therapists use therapeutic approaches to restore and enhance each patient’s living skills. Patients are trained to resume their daily routines, including toileting, grooming, bathing, dressing, cooking and working.

Speech Therapy

We evaluate, treat and manage patients with disorders of speech, voice, language, cognition, memory and swallowing. This is achieved by providing direct patient care, counseling and education.

Communication therapy provides a full range of evaluation, prevention and rehabilitation services to those with communicative, cognitive and swallowing disorders. An individualized treatment plan focusing on regaining functional and reliable communication is implemented for each patient. Treatment goals may also address specific communicative and cognitive deficits through a variety of faciliatory and compensatory treatment techniques.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a treatment option used in physical therapy to help reduce pain in affected areas. A small, thin, flexible needle is inserted into the deeper tissues that are considered trigger points to your pain. It should not be confused with acupuncture.

Lymphedema Services

Lymphedema is an abnormal build-up of protein-rich swelling. It most often occurs in the extremities, resulting in reactive fibrosis and decreased immune function.

Northern Nevada Medical Center has a Certified Lymphedema Therapist. This therapist has received thorough and rigorous training in the Foeldi Method of Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT). This therapeutic system is regarded as the “Gold Standard” for the treatment of lymphedema by the International Society of Lymphology (ISL).

Our therapist is qualified to treat lymphedema (both primary and secondary), lipedema, phlebo-lymphostatic edema, chronic venous insufficiencies and post traumatic edema. CDT consists of an initial reductive phase (Phase 1) followed by a maintenance phase (Phase 2).

Our approach to rehabilitation involves specialists from many disciplines.
